Description

Most vineyards statewide are planted to rootstocks that were initially chosen for phylloxera resistance and to manage high vegetative vigor and hasten ripening. Most of these rootstocks are not drought tolerant. Over the years, the industry has expanded plantings into areas with more diverse soils, rainfall patterns, and pest concerns. Rootstocks are touted as one answer to climate change long-term, but which rootstocks should be considered in Oregon’s diverse growing regions? Dr. Patty Skinkis, Professor and Viticulture Extension Specialist and Dr. Alec Levin, Associate Professor and OSU-SOREC Director, will cover information on rootstocks to be considered using local research and published literature on market-available rootstocks.
